Cleaning and maintenance
“Natural stone work surfaces must be regularly cleaned and maintained. Some natural stones are more resistant to staining than others and it is recommended that liquids and foods should be wiped off with a damp cloth as soon as possible after spillage. Furthermore it is advisable that the surface should also be cleaned with a damp cloth on a daily basis.”
Avoiding damage …
Avoid using the surface for direct cutting. Although extremely hard, scratching even of polished granite surfaces may occur.
Marble although highly durable and hard is more susceptible to scratching, chipping and staining than granite and therefore additional care should be taken to avoid damage.
Try to avoid if possible any heavy object impacting with the stone surface especially the edges as this may cause chipping.
Moving of a carcase may lead to flexion of the joints possibly leading to the loss of the jointing material and spalling of the adjacent edges of the stone.
Avoid placing hot utensils such as pans directly on to the surface, the use of protective mats or trivets are recommended.
