Question: How do we go about choosing the most suitable natural stone for our project?
Answer: Although most natural stone is eminently suitable for architectural use the physical qualities, colour and size can vary considerably and Fyfe Glenrock recommends early consultation during the design process so that a range of suitable options can be submitted and examined prior to final selection.
Question: What is Fyfe Glenrocks’ policy with regards to sustainability with respect to natural stone?
Answer: Natural stone is regarded as one of the most sustainable of building materials. Extraction and manufacture utilizes limited amounts of secondary processes compared to most other building materials. Our design team gives guidance with respect to unit yield so as to minimise wastage. Whenever possible waste is processed into alternative products. With thoughtful design natural stone lends itself to reusable applications. Whenever possible the quarries are either reinstated to their original landform or the area is developed into an enhanced alternative e.g. nature reserve.
Question: How do we know which BS/EN tests are applicable to our project?
Answer: Fyfe Glenrock will give guidance with respect to which tests are appropriate for a particular application.
Question: How does the price of natural stone compare to other building materials?
Answer: The price of natural stone does vary considerably, but overall compares favourably with other quality building materials. When comparisons are made it is important to examine life cycle costs and in such instances natural stone compares very favourably. During the design consultation process Fyfe Glenrock can provide budget prices for the submitted options so as to facilitate final selection.
Question: What is the average delivery period for natural stone?
Answer: It depends on the make up of the product i.e. is it standard or bespoke. On average we quote 10 to 12 weeks from placement of order and approval of the working drawings
