Granite

• What is granite?
    Granite is a commonly used term for a group of natural stones, which are igneous in origin and formed from the cooling, 
    and solidification of molten lava and magma.


What is granite made of ? 
  
Granite mainly consists of quartz [silica], feldspars and mica in varying proportions.

Does granite vary in colour?
   
As with any natural material granite may vary slightly from the samples provided which is why it is always advisable       order additional features such as up stands, window sills and splash backs at the same time as the work surfaces.

• Is granite hard?
    Granite is a hard durable natural stone which is resistant to scratching but the degree of hardness can vary from one granite type to another and it always advisable as with most materials to avoid the use of sharp metal objects on the surface.

Is granite durable?
   
Granite is scratch and heat resistant and with proper care it will last for many years.

• What are the available finishes?
    The most popular finish is polished but it is also available in honed [matt], flame textured and sanded and some granites are available in a leather finish.

Are there any distinct advantages in using granite?
   
Being a natural material your granite work surface will be unique to you and with proper care and maintenance it will

Marble

What is marble? 
    
Marble is a recrystallized limestone.

What is marble made of? 
    
Marble consists mainly of calcite or dolomite.

Does marble vary in colour?
   
As with any natural material marble will vary slightly from the samples provided which is why it is advisable to order
    additional features such as up stands, window sills, splash backs etc at the same time as the work surface.


Is marble hard?
   
Marble is not as hard as granite and as with all work surfaces it should not be subjected to sharp metallic edges.

Is marble durable?
   
Marble is not as durable as granite but with proper care and maintenance it will last for many years.

What are the available finishes?
   
Marble is available in polished, honed [matt] and antiqued finishes.

Are there any distinct advantages in using marble?
   
The colours and patterns of certain marbles are strikingly beautiful and with proper care and maintenance it will result in 
    an enduring enhancement of your home.



Composite

What is composite stone?
   
Composite stone is a man-made material.

What is composite stone made of?
   
Dependent on the manufacturing process it can consist of minerals such as quartz bound by resin or a natural matrix.

Does composite stone vary in colour?
   
Being man-made it is usually more consistent than natural stone but colours can vary from the samples.

How hard is composite stone?
   
Although quartz is usually the main ingredient it is always advisable to avoid using sharp metallic edges on the surface.

Is composite stone durable?
   
Because it is manufactured for use as a work surface it is durable but still requires proper care and maintenance.

What are the finishes?
   
Polished, honed [matt] antiqued and leather are the usual finishes.
